RE-DO!

Well, it's Monday again, and I really wasn't ready for the weekend to be over. I don't feel like I accomplished the first thing (probably because I didn't) and now I want a "re-do". :o) I woke up this morning, surveyed my messy house and felt like a crappy wife. If I can't keep my house out of CHAOS while there's just the two of us, how can I ever hope to make it with children? So, I guess just like I'm trying to learn good eating habits, I need to try to learn good life habits.

I'm an all or nothing kind of girl - It's either gotta be perfect or I'm not going to bother to do it. That character trait controls everything I do. I don't like to learn how to do new things (ie: knitting) because I don't like to do things I'm not good at. And if I eat a little too much, I scrap the whole day and don't even bother trying to get OP. And if I don't have the time or energy to clean my house until it sparkles in every corner, I'll let it go until I do.

Since I've recognized this, I'm hoping that I can start changing this mindset because it's obviously holding me back.

I went Sunday to DB to have my bridesmaid dress altered. They wanted me to spend $100 in alterations! I told them, "Look, I'm sorry, but that's more than I paid for the dress. What's the bare minimum?" So, I got it down to $40 (which, by the way was just taking up the halter and putting in bra cups) and that's going to have to be good enough. I mean really, there's 5 of us - no one's going to be scrupulously looking at me - I'm just another bridesmaid! :o) I may be cheap, but I see no sense in paying out the butt for a dress that I'll never wear again. (and I'll never ever wear it again - it's SOOOOOO not my color!) :o) *sigh* But, of course, all of you are hearing this, because there's no way that I'm venting to my family and risk the chance of it getting back to Cyrena (the bride). She's got enough going on without worrying that her Future SIL is freaking out!! (I'm not really freaking...)

The luau was fun. Lots of yummy fruits and veggies (and mini quiche, cheese balls, cookies, and cake!) We have no idea how many points we ate, but since we filled up on the low point stuff it couldn't have been too bad. We just went easy for the rest of the evening and ate a couple of low point snacks.

I guess that's it. Now that one of my coworkers quit I feel like I have a ton of organizing to do, which is weird because the organizing has nothing to do with him. I guess I just want our office o have some sanity to it since we're one accountant down and it's liable to be stressful for the rest of the accountants. (There's only 3 of us here now) Lucky for me I'm just the office manager. A glorified secretary, really. My job is much easier. (and my paycheck is much smaller!) So I guess I better check in with ya'll before while it's still calm!

Have a great OP day!!

I so am not the "June Cleaver" type! But I have learned a few tricks -

If clutter is a problem for you, try this: once a day walk through a room with a garbage bag and toss everything you don't HAVE to have in it - toss it out or give it away. If you do one room a night, you'll declutter your whole house in no time! (this is tough if you are a pack-rat)

If just true messiness/dirt is your problem, try to spend 30 minutes each night on something - most folks can get 1 room done in 30 minutes...then you can have your weekends to yourself!(this might be tough if you have that "all or nothing" mentality!)

In fairness, I don't always do this, and then I have a marathon clean up on Saturday...

Sounds like you did great at the luau...and I agree about the dress, that is too much for alterations and the day is about the bride ;) I hear ya about the cleaning, I am the same way! My cleaning is erratic, except for vacuuming cuz we have 2 babies (our dogs) that shed like cats! LOL

I am so with you on the all or nothing personality!!! It's really hard to get past (and I don't usually...) but I'm getting better on the eating part of that anyway... the house thing... still working on that- big time!! My DH says it's just procrastination.. Sounds like you did great at the luau!! Have a happy Monday! :D

Isn't the office sooo much easier to organize than the house? My place is still a mess with 4 of the 'others' trying to thwart my every attempt at making it otherwise (2 kids, 1 husband and a very sheddy dog). I feel for ya.

I also never want to try new things 'cause I'm not good at them. I don't even like to do things that I'm only sorta decent at. If I'm not an allstar (or at least better than 50% of other people) I don't do it. I think that's a horrible trait in myself because what makes me think I'm so special right?
I think that once you have kids (when when when?) then things will sorta fall into place a little better. Plus, be honest, who do you know with kids who's house is always clean and organized. I'm the same way with my house, it's a disaster. But since we got our puppy, we just stopped leaving things on the floor and it's just easier to keep clean. Now that there's a reason for it I guess.

$100 in alterations on a BM dress??? EEEKKK...I would never be able to spend that much on one.
Good luck with the organization project. I love cleaning and organizing but rarely get myself to do it!

See I am a little A.R. when it comes to cleaning and organizing. The upstairs is pretty much straightened up about 80% of the time. The kitchen is the WORST!! It is the catch all room for my DH. He goes through the mail there and then leaves it!!! My biggest pet peeve. I get so much satisfaction in knowing my whole house is straightened up and when it is, DS is playing outside! LOL!!!

The luau sounds like it was fun and you did good. :)

I've always said the weekends should be 5 days and the work week 2 days. Now, wouldn't that be awesome!??!?! :)

I was having the same thoughts about my house this morning! I'm not working right now so I have no excuse...my house should be spotless. ..and it is so not!!

Yeah, I count each day a success if all four kids are wearing pants... keeping the house clean is not even on my radar!

Are you too busy cleaning house to post lately? I miss you!

A fellow perfectionist! :) I understand your house cleaning philosophy all too well!

Hope your "RE-DO" is going well and that the office hasn't gotten hectic without the other person.

I WISH my BM dress was under $100. My bridezilla friend picked $385 dresses! Sure she paid a $100 for each girl out of her own pocket, but still $285 for an ugly dress that I will NEVER wear again has really pissed me off. Don't get me started, just know that I feel your pain.
